35 examples of masterful lighting effects in web design via Smashing Magazine
hm... the title of the article says 35, but the link says 30?
favorites:
for a beautiful web - some awesome minimalistic design with amazing typography and attention to detail
taoeffect - wow from the banner to the glow on the tabs to the static/noisy backgrounds, and anyone notice the H at the right buttom corner? details, glorious details.
random digression: crush+lovely's fifty people one question is awesome!
ditley - i just love the theme and again the attention to detail. everything just fits so well together, and the subtle effects on the corners and the "wall" just make me want to feel it.
rareview - a rare view indeed, the whole website just glows and moves!
search inside video - although i don't quite see any special lighting effects, i do like the layout and the color use and typography a lot.
montery - a great example of how a well made background can be the backbone to a great website
alex buga - i am absolutely in love with this site. by the time anyone reads this, the layou will probably have changed significantly, but holy shit. the ikea label on the lamp, the pull up menu on the bottom, and plan just how well everything fits and flows with each other. beautiful.
youlove.us - although i can't say their design is the greatest, their use of color and lighting as you scroll down the page is very well executed.
Barak Obama - can't forget the new president's site, it definitely glows everywhere in its all out blueness. i really like how the two colums are so abruptly divided, yet the colors flow well enough that it doesn't feel disjointed at all.
okay, i have to add that i played devil's advovate and opened some of these sites its IE6 just to see how they dealt with it. i got results ranging from working, to completely broken, to a secondary page with limited content telling users to switch.
